Si Yu Wei’s entrepreneurial journey began at 16, selling snacks to classmates despite school rules. What started as a small venture to earn pocket money evolved into a thriving dumpling business generating six-figure monthly sales.

Yu Wei excelled in economics and mathematics in school and later pursued a Bachelor’s in Business (Marketing). During university, she balanced three full-time jobs while attending online classes during Malaysia’s Movement Control Order (MCO), gaining experience in business operations and saving capital to invest in her own venture.

After experimenting with various product sales, Yu Wei discovered her passion for dumplings during MCO. Starting with RM300, she invested about RM50,000 after traveling to China for training and purchasing equipment. Her business expanded quickly, but she faced challenges, including working 15-hour days alone, coping with overwhelming orders that led to quality control issues, and setbacks like a power outage that destroyed stock worth RM20,000.

In September 2024, she opened a physical stall but shut it down eight months later due to staffing difficulties and declining food quality. She refocused on the online business, which stabilized by April 2025. Today, her dumpling brand consistently reaches RM100,000 in monthly sales but remains limited by manpower shortages. Yu Wei pays herself RM5,000 monthly, reinvesting most profits to grow the business.

Reflecting on her journey, Yu Wei advises aspiring entrepreneurs not to overthink or fear failure. “Most obstacles are self-doubt,” she said. “Start now, learn from mistakes, and keep going. You never know what’s possible until you try.”
