Anthropic has introduced a new system that echoes the interactive Flash games popular in the late 1990s and 2000s, but adapted for the AI era. Flash originally started as animation software before becoming a platform for rich web experiences with its ActionScript programming language.
Unlike the original Flash games where portal operators bore hosting costs, Anthropic’s approach shifts expenses to users through their existing Claude AI subscriptions. When someone uses a Claude-powered app, their usage is charged against their own account, not the creator’s.
These Claude-powered apps run entirely in the browser and can be shared via simple links with other Claude users, requiring no installation. While the system currently showcases apps made by Anthropic and personal creations, its future expansion could resemble platforms like Scratch or Newgrounds—with AI generating code under human guidance.
Building apps with Claude remains interactive and iterative, often requiring user input to refine the output. Although errors are expected initially, persistence and usage can yield engaging AI-coded experiences reminiscent of the Flash game era.
