Apple Addresses Siri Feature Delays and Promises Future Improvements

At its WWDC keynote, Apple acknowledged delays in several Siri features announced last year that have yet to be released. In a recent interview, Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi, explained the reasons behind these delays and hinted at additional upcoming features.

Federighi told YouTuber iJustine that while the delayed Siri features were functional internally, they did not meet Apple’s standards for reliability and performance. He emphasized that Apple prefers to postpone releases rather than ship incomplete experiences that users cannot depend on.

“What we said a while ago was that we were really working hard to get those [features] to come together. We had them working internally, but not working well enough. When you have an experience like asking Siri to do something, it either becomes something you can depend on reliably, or it’s something you’re not going to use,” Federighi said.

He added that the initial development approach did not yield the expected results, prompting a change in strategy to improve the features.

Despite the setbacks, Federighi reaffirmed Apple’s commitment to delivering all previously announced Siri capabilities and even teased additional enhancements. However, he refrained from providing specific details until the features are ready for release.

“We really look forward to releasing everything we talked about in the past, and more. We don’t really want to commit to that until we have it in hand,” he stated.
