At its recent Worldwide Developers’ Conference (WWDC), Apple revealed several enhancements coming in iOS 26, including updates to Apple CarPlay set to arrive this fall.
Early access to these features is available through the developer beta program. Key CarPlay updates include:
- Redesigned Interface: CarPlay’s new design aligns with iOS 26’s aesthetic, offering a consistent look across devices. Improvements include icon visuals optimized for light and dark modes and a more compact notification layout that preserves navigation clarity.
- Widgets Support: Users can now access widgets on CarPlay, providing quick information such as weather, reminders, and smart home status. Live activities like a friend’s flight updates will also be visible directly on the CarPlay screen.
- Apple CarPlay Ultra Expansion: Building on last month’s launch of Apple CarPlay Ultra, this feature integrates deeply with a vehicle’s touchscreen and dashboard for an enhanced in-car experience. Currently available only in new Aston Martin models in the US and Canada, Apple is collaborating with manufacturers including Hyundai, Kia, Ford, and Volvo to broaden its availability.
These updates aim to make CarPlay more informative and seamlessly integrated within vehicles, enhancing driving convenience and safety.
