Apple announced that iPhone users will soon be able to stream videos to CarPlay screens in vehicles that support AirPlay. The feature will allow wireless video playback on CarPlay displays but only when the vehicle is parked, ensuring driver safety by disabling playback when the car is in motion.
The connected iPhone will detect vehicle movement and stop video playback accordingly. Automakers will need to implement support for CarPlay with AirPlay video, so rollout may take some time. The feature is expected to be available on both standard CarPlay and the premium CarPlay Ultra, though it is unclear if existing vehicles will support it or if it will be limited to new models.
This feature could enhance in-car entertainment, especially for electric vehicle users who often wait at charging stations. Some electric cars already offer similar functionality natively—for example, Tesla’s Theater app allows video streaming on the dashboard screen while parked.
Apple has not provided further details or images of the feature. Availability might differ based on regional safety regulations.
Previously, some third-party apps and jailbreak tweaks enabled video playback on CarPlay unofficially. With this update, Apple officially permits the functionality.
This announcement was part of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, where the company also unveiled major software updates and the new “Liquid Glass” design language across its platforms.
