Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 have received a repairability score of 0 out of 10 from iFixit, highlighting significant challenges in repairing these devices. Despite their advanced engineering and feature set, the earbuds become effectively unusable once the battery degrades.
iFixit’s teardown reveals that opening the AirPods Pro 3 causes cosmetic damage, and reassembling them requires glue, making repairs difficult or impossible. The charging case suffers from similar issues, being glued shut and nearly impossible to open without destruction.
iFixit contrasts Apple’s design with other products, such as Fairbuds, which allow easier battery replacement and maintenance. This approach, common in some in-ear headphones, suggests Apple’s design choices prioritize sealed units over repairability.
While many users accept the typical 2-3 year lifespan, iFixit’s assessment underscores ongoing concerns about the AirPods’ sustainability and repair limitations.
