Denmark’s consumer ombudsman has fined Tesla’s Danish subsidiary 190,000 kroner for misleading marketing related to car sales and financing. The issue stems from Tesla’s 2019 advertisements, which did not include registration taxes and fees for vehicle documentation and delivery in the listed prices.

Additionally, Tesla failed to provide clear example calculations in its financing offers. Consumer Ombudsman Torben Jensen emphasized the importance of providing full information to consumers when making significant decisions such as purchasing a vehicle or securing a loan.

The fine was limited due to the breach occurring before a 2022 rule change that links fines to company turnover. Tesla Motors Denmark had nearly 1.2 billion kroner in turnover in 2019. Under current regulations, Tesla could have faced a penalty ranging from 500,000 to 10.2 million kroner.
