Ethereum Co-Founder Joseph Lubin Proposes Tokenizing SharpLink’s SBET Stock

Joseph Lubin, Ethereum co-founder and SharpLink board chairman, has suggested tokenizing SharpLink Gaming’s SBET stock to create an on-chain version. This initiative aims to improve investor access, reduce fees, enable 24/7 trading, and prevent ticker manipulation.

SharpLink’s stock tumbled nearly 80% following a misunderstood SEC filing related to a share resale, which Lubin clarified was procedural and tied to Ethereum treasury management. The company recently acquired 176,271 ETH, becoming the largest public Ethereum holder, and is pursuing a $1 billion shelf offering to expand its Ethereum reserves.

Lubin’s dual roles at Ethereum and SharpLink position him to integrate blockchain technology with public market assets. Tokenization of SBET stock could enhance transparency, ownership verification, and compatibility with decentralized finance (DeFi) tools, addressing growing concerns over fake SBET tokens circulating in the market.

While regulatory challenges remain, SharpLink’s focus on an Ethereum-based treasury and Lubin’s endorsement of tokenization underscore the potential for innovation at the intersection of fintech and blockchain. This move could set a precedent for other tech-forward public companies adopting stock tokenization.
