New details have emerged about Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone, reportedly set for release in 2026. The device, often referred to as the “iPhone Fold,” is expected to feature dual 48-megapixel rear cameras, according to notable Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station.
This aligns with current iPhone 16 Pro models, which also have 48MP main and ultra-wide cameras. Apple is likely equipping the foldable with similar camera capabilities to match its rumored premium price, estimated around $2,000.
While specific lens specs were not confirmed, the foldable iPhone’s main camera may have a 24mm focal length and an f/1.78 aperture, along with second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization. It is expected to support Apple’s “Fusion” technology, which uses a high-resolution sensor with in-sensor cropping to simulate multiple focal lengths such as 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm. A telephoto lens is not anticipated, likely due to space limitations.
On the front, the foldable iPhone should include cameras on both the inner and outer displays. Reports suggest the inner screen will have an under-screen camera, while the outer screen will use a hole-punch front-facing camera when folded.
Regarding the display size, Digital Chat Station suggested Apple is testing a 7.6-inch inner panel, slightly smaller than previous reports of 7.8 inches. However, analysts like Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo argue that a size change at this late stage of production—Apple currently in the New Product Introduction phase at Foxconn—is unlikely.
Mass production is expected in the second half of 2026, with a launch anticipated sometime next year.
