Game Freak, known primarily for Pokémon, has unveiled a new action RPG titled Beast of Reincarnation during the Xbox Games Showcase.
Originally teased in 2023 as “Project Bloom,” the game is set to launch in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5. Notably, there is no mention of a release for Nintendo Switch or the upcoming Switch 2.
Beast of Reincarnation features a post-apocalyptic Japan ravaged by monstrous creatures. Players control Emma, an outcast known as a Blighted One, and her loyal dog, Koo, as they navigate a dangerous, shifting landscape. The game emphasizes technical, challenging combat and the deepening bond between Emma and Koo, unlocking mysterious powers.
“In post-apocalyptic Japan, a land ruined by corruption and crawling with monstrous beasts, humanity’s last hope may rest with Emma—an outcast cursed as a Blighted One—and Koo, her loyal canine companion.
Survive a journey across an ominous, ever-changing world where dangerous forests can erupt in the wasteland. As Emma and Koo push deeper into the unknown, their bond strengthens—and with it, strange powers bloom.
Explore what it means to be human in Beast of Reincarnation, an expansive one-person, one-dog action RPG built around demanding, technical combat.”
The title was initially announced as a collaboration between Game Freak and Private Division. However, recent updates show publishing shifted to a new studio called Fictions, reportedly formed by former Annapurna Interactive staff.
The ambitious scale and technical demands suggest the game is designed for more powerful hardware, explaining its absence from the Nintendo platforms for now. While the Switch 2 might eventually support such titles—given it can run demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077—there has been no official confirmation regarding its release on the platform.
Fans eager to see Game Freak branching out beyond Pokémon will likely want to keep an eye out for further announcements.
