Google’s August software update resolves a bug causing unresponsive three-button navigation on Pixel devices. Since the release of Android 16 in June, many Pixel users, including those with the Pixel 9, reported delays of up to 30 seconds registering button taps or needing multiple presses to activate the back button.
Users also experienced issues with gesture navigation, such as swipe gestures failing to respond.
Google’s update notes confirm it includes fixes for both three-button and gesture navigation problems under certain conditions. Additionally, the update addresses a separate issue where the scheduled dark theme failed to activate, requiring users to toggle dark mode manually—a problem persisting since the March update.
The update is available for all devices running Android 16, from Pixel 6 through Pixel 8 models. Google will roll out the update in phases over the next week, so availability may vary by device.
