Google Photos is introducing several new features exclusively for iPhone users before rolling them out to Android devices. These upgrades include a redesigned photo view, an enhanced actions menu, and interactive badges.
Key updates in Google Photos for iOS are:
- Light Mode: The app now follows the iOS system theme, switching between light and dark modes accordingly. This provides users who prefer light mode a consistent experience.
- Glanceable Photo Data: Date, time, and location details are now displayed above each photo automatically, eliminating the need to manually access this information. Next to these details is a new action button with options such as About, Google Lens, Create, Cast, Save as (for Live Photos), Download, and Delete from device.
- Refined Actions Menu: Some previously present actions have been moved to an Add to (+) button on the bottom bar. This allows easier organization with options for adding photos to albums, archiving, or moving them to the Locked Folder.
- Improved Photo Stack Management: Users can now tap an action button near photo stacks or burst photos to remove items, unstack groups, multi-select, or change the top pick within a stack.
- Interactive Badges: Badges above photos enable quick actions like changing a photo’s category, playing or pausing Live Photos, saving shared photos to the library, and managing backups or storage.
Currently, these features are exclusive to iOS. Google has confirmed plans to bring them to Android soon but has not provided a specific timeline.
