Google Photos has introduced several new features exclusively for iPhone users, with an Android rollout expected in the near future. The updates include a redesigned photo view, an enhanced actions menu, and actionable badges to improve usability.
- Light Mode Support: The app now adapts to the iOS system theme, switching between light and dark modes automatically.
- Glanceable Photo Data: Date, time, and location details are now displayed prominently above each photo without requiring additional taps. An adjacent action button offers quick access to options like About, Google Lens, Create, Cast, Save as, Download, and Delete from device.
- Updated Actions Menu: Some previous actions have been relocated under a new ‘+’ button on the bottom bar, enabling users to organize photos into albums, archive them, or move items to the Locked Folder.
- Photo Stack Management: Users can manage photo stacks and burst photos through an action menu, which allows unstacking, removing items, multi-selecting for bulk actions, and changing the top photo choice.
- Actionable Badges: Badges now appear above photos for quick actions such as changing a photo’s category, playing or pausing Live Photos, saving shared images to the library, and managing backup or storage.
While these updates enhance the iOS experience, Google has not yet provided a timeline for when the features will become available on Android devices.
