Google Photos has introduced several new features exclusively for iPhone users, with Android support expected in the near future. These updates include an updated photo view, enhanced actions menu, and interactive badges.
Here is a breakdown of the new features on iOS:
- Light Mode Support: The app now syncs with the iPhone’s system theme, switching between light and dark modes automatically.
- Glanceable Photo Data: Date, time, and location details now appear above each photo by default, eliminating the need to manually access this info. An action button next to the data offers options such as About, Google Lens, Create, Cast, Save As (for Live Photos), Download, or Delete from device.
- Updated Actions Menu: Some previous actions have moved under a new ‘+’ button at the bottom bar, allowing users to organize photos into albums, archive them, or move items to the Locked Folder.
- Photo Stack Management: For stacks and burst photos, a new action button lets users remove items, unstack groups, select multiple photos for batch actions, and change the top pick.
- Quick-Action Badges: Badges now appear above photos to quickly change categories, play or pause Live Photos, save shared photos to the library, and manage backups or storage.
Currently, these features are available only on iPhones. Google has confirmed a future rollout for Android devices but has not specified a timeline.
