Google Photos has introduced several new features exclusively for iPhone users, with Android support expected soon but no confirmed release date. The updates aim to improve user experience with enhanced photo viewing and management tools.
- Light Mode Support: The app now adapts to iOS system themes, switching between light and dark modes automatically to match user preferences.
- Glanceable Photo Data: Date, time, and location details are now displayed above each photo by default, eliminating the need to manually access this information. An adjacent action button provides quick access to options such as About, Google Lens, Create, Cast, Save as, Download, and Delete.
- Updated Actions Menu: Some existing actions have been relocated under a new Add to (+) button, allowing users to organize photos into albums, archive them, or move them to a Locked Folder.
- Photo Stack Management: Users can manage photo stacks and burst mode images through a dedicated action button on thumbnails. Options include removing photos from stacks, unstacking groups, multi-selecting for batch actions, and setting a top pick.
- Actionable Badges: New badges appear above photos to quickly change categories, play or pause Live Photos, save shared photos to the library, and manage backups or storage.
These features are currently exclusive to Google Photos on iOS with an upcoming rollout planned for Android devices, though Google has not provided a specific timeline.
