Google Photos Rolls Out Five New Features to iPhone Users Ahead of Android

Google Photos is introducing several new features exclusively for iPhone users before releasing them on Android. The updates include a redesigned photo view, an improved actions menu, and actionable badges that enhance photo management.

  • Light Mode Integration: The app now adapts to the iOS system theme, switching between light and dark modes automatically. This provides an improved visual experience for users who prefer light mode.
  • Glanceable Photo Data: Key details such as the date, time, and location of each photo are now displayed above the image by default, eliminating the need to manually access this information. An adjacent action button offers options like About, Google Lens, Create, Cast, Save as (for Live Photos), Download, and Delete from device.
  • Enhanced Actions Menu: Some actions have been moved under a new Add to (+) button at the bottom, allowing users to organize photos into albums, archive images, or transfer items to the Locked Folder.
  • Photo Stack Management: Users can now tap an action button next to photo stacks or burst mode groups to remove photos, unstack them, select multiple images for batch actions, or change the top photo in a stack.
  • Actionable Badges: New badges appear above photos, enabling quick actions such as changing photo categories, playing or pausing Live Photos, saving shared photos to the library, and managing backups and storage with a single tap.

These features are currently available only on Google Photos for iPhone. Google has confirmed the updates will arrive on Android devices soon but has not provided a specific timeline.
