Google’s Pixel phones received a major update this week with the release of Android 16 and new Pixel Drop features, including enhanced security, improved contact options, and upgraded button navigation. Some key features like desktop windowing and Material 3 Expressive are expected to arrive later.
However, a dark mode scheduling bug introduced in March remains unresolved in Android 16. Google confirmed that a fix is planned for an upcoming Pixel Drop update.
Since Android 10, the system-level dark theme has offered a less bright option, especially useful in low-light settings. The feature includes scheduling to switch between light and dark modes based on custom times or sunrise and sunset. Despite solid adoption over five years, the March Pixel update broke the dark mode schedule.
Currently, manually toggling dark mode disables the schedule until users reset it and avoid manual toggling. Originally deemed “intended behavior,” Google later acknowledged the issue after receiving a valid bug report.
