Honor has launched the Magic V5 foldable smartphone in China, claiming the title of the world’s thinnest foldable device, measuring just 8.8mm thick. However, this slim profile applies only to the “Warm White” color variant; other colors have a thickness of 9mm. The “Warm White” model also weighs 217 grams, making it lighter than the rest.
The Magic V5 improves on its predecessor, the Magic V3, particularly in thickness and camera capabilities. It competes directly with the Oppo Find N5 (8.93mm) and the anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7 (8.9-9mm thickness). The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and features a 7.95-inch inner display alongside a 6.43-inch outer display. It supports up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage and runs Android 15 out of the box. Battery capacities differ between models, with the top-tier version equipped with a 6,100 mAh battery, while others have a 5,820 mAh battery.
The standout feature is the camera system, which includes a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, a 64MP 3x telephoto camera, and dual 20MP selfie cameras located on both the inner and outer displays. Despite the overall thinness, the camera module itself is exceptionally large — thicker than either half of the phone. This bump is considerably more pronounced than on rival foldables like the Oppo Find N5. While this suggests potential for high-quality photography, further evaluations are needed to confirm performance.
The Honor Magic V5 is currently available only in China, with no confirmed global launch date. Additional details can be found on Honor’s Chinese website.
