Insta360, known for its Ace Pro action cameras, has introduced its first wireless microphone, the Mic Air. Roughly the size of an Apple AirTag, this compact and lightweight device offers up to 10 hours of battery life, positioning it among the smallest wireless mics on the market.
The Mic Air is priced at $49.99 when purchased alone, or $69.99 bundled with a USB-C receiver required for wireless connection to smartphones and Insta360’s stabilized gimbals. It is available from Insta360’s online store and retailers such as Amazon.
Weighing just 7.9 grams, the Mic Air is lighter than its competitors, including the 10-gram DJI Mic Mini, the 30-gram Rode Wireless GO II, and Shure’s 8.2-gram MoveMic. It can be attached to clothing via a clip, magnetic backing, or pendant strap. For solo content creators, onboard buttons enable noise canceling, video recording control, and quick muting, while the USB-C receiver features adjustable volume controls.
Insta360 states the microphone supports up to 10 hours of use and a wireless range of 300 meters under ideal conditions—specifically in an open, interference-free environment with noise canceling off. When connected directly via Bluetooth to Insta360 cameras like the Ace Pro 2 or the X5 8K 360-degree cam, battery life drops to 7.5 hours, and the range decreases to 30-50 meters. Additional camera compatibility is expected in the future.
Though equipped with Bluetooth, the Mic Air requires the USB-C receiver to connect to smartphones, which may necessitate an adapter dongle for use with older iPhones featuring a Lightning port.
