iPhone 17 Air Screen Protector Suggests Front Camera May Shift Position

A screen protector purportedly designed for Apple’s forthcoming ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air hints at a possible design change in the front camera placement.

An image shared by leaker Majin Bu shows the iPhone 17 Air’s front camera positioned to the left of the Dynamic Island, unlike recent iPhone models where it sits to the right.

The reason for this shift is unclear, but the iPhone 17 Air’s notably slim profile—expected to measure just 5.5mm at its thinnest point—may have necessitated internal component rearrangements involving the front camera and Face ID system.

All four iPhone 17 variants are rumored to upgrade to a 24-megapixel front camera, doubling the resolution from the iPhone 16 series’ 12 megapixels. However, this update alone likely does not explain the camera’s new position, since screen protectors for the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max still show the front camera hole on the right side of the Dynamic Island.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 Air in September, which may clarify whether this camera repositioning is official.
