Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max this September, bringing notable enhancements to their camera systems. Here are four key features expected in the new models:

  • 48MP Telephoto Lens Upgrade: Completing the 48MP sensor trio introduced over recent years, the iPhone 17 Pro will upgrade its telephoto camera to 48MP. This may affect the default zoom setting, currently at 5x.
  • Multi-Cam Video Recording: For the first time, Apple’s native Camera app may support simultaneous video capture from multiple cameras. While third-party apps have offered this before, this feature is rumored to be exclusive to the new Pro hardware.
  • 24MP TrueDepth Front Camera: All iPhone 17 models, including the Pro, Pro Max, standard, and Air versions, are expected to receive a front-facing TrueDepth camera boost from 12MP to 24MP, the first significant upgrade in years.
  • Redesigned Camera Module: The traditional camera bump is being transformed into a wider, full-length camera “island” on the back. Components like the flash will be repositioned, although Apple has not detailed the advantages of this redesign.

Camera advancements remain a highlight for each iPhone release. While the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air may appeal to many, the Pro models are poised to deliver the most advanced camera technology.
