Summer Game Fest 2025, Geoff Keighley’s premier gaming event, took place from June 3-9, featuring 15 livestreamed presentations that showcased a wide range of games from AAA studios to indie developers. Our coverage summarizes the major announcements in chronological order.
June 3 – State of Unreal: The Witcher IV and Fortnite AI
Epic Games aligned its Unreal Fest conference with Summer Game Fest, unveiling updates on The Witcher IV and Fortnite. A real-time tech demo running on Unreal Engine 5.6 demonstrated The Witcher IV‘s detailed world with advanced Nanite foliage technology, presenting a lively town scene with hundreds of NPCs. For Fortnite, Epic announced that creators would soon be able to integrate custom AI NPCs into the game.
June 4 – PlayStation State of Play
Sony revealed over 20 games, spotlighting Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 fighter by Arc System Works, due in 2026 for PS5 and PC. The company also announced Project Defiant, a wireless fight stick launching in 2026. Key release dates were confirmed for Sword of the Sea (August 19), Baby Steps (September 8), Silent Hill f (September 25), and a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster (September 30). Other announcements included Nioh 3, Suda51’s Romeo is a Dead Man, and Lumines Arise from the Tetris Effect developer.

June 6 – Summer Game Fest Live
The opening night stream featured the tonal shift title Resident Evil Requiem, considered a fresh direction following Resident Evil Village. Sega showcased Stranger Than Heaven (formerly Project Century), a jazz-themed spin on the Yakuza series. Sequels were announced for Atomic Heart, Code Vein, Mortal Shell, and a spiritual successor > Scott Pilgrim EX.
The Day of the Devs stream spotlighted indie games like the upcoming Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School, which expands its co-op escape room gameplay into a 3D school campus. Relooted, a heist game about reclaiming artifacts, was also featured.
Devolver Digital focused on Ball x Pit, a breakout and base-building hybrid, now available as a demo on Steam. IO Interactive presented a new James Bond-themed Hitman mission and announced console and tabletop releases for Hitman along with publishing Leslie Benzies’ MindsEye.
June 7 – Wholesome Direct and Specialized Showcases
The Wholesome Direct highlighted charming titles like Monument Valley 3, transitioning from Netflix exclusivity to consoles and PC, and Discounty, a cozy yet eerie shop-management game releasing on August 21 across multiple platforms. New releases included Omelet You Cook and Camper Van: Make it Home. Numerous regional and thematic showcases for women-led, Latin American, Southeast Asian, green, and niche games also took place.
June 8 – Xbox Showcase: New Handhelds, Outer Worlds 2, and Black Ops 7
Microsoft unveiled the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, handheld gaming devices running Windows 11 with Xbox-focused optimizations. Designed with ergonomic grips, these devices will launch during the holiday season, though pricing remains unknown. Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at launch on these handhelds.
Outer Worlds 2 received a release date of October 29, featuring enhanced combat and richer companions. A new Call of Duty title, Black Ops 7, was also announced.
Additional reveals included the early access date for indie life sim Paralives (December 8) and the upcoming multi-platform release of Blippo+, expanding from Playdate to PC and Nintendo Switch in full color.
June 9 – Black Voices in Gaming Showcase
The week concluded with a dedicated event spotlighting Black creators and stories in gaming, streamed live at noon ET.
