Microsoft and Meta have released the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition, a virtual reality headset priced at $399.99. This custom version features Xbox-themed black and green colors, comes bundled with an Xbox wireless controller, matching Touch Plus controllers, and includes three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
The headset has a tailored setup process that integrates the Xbox color scheme into its user interface. It comes pre-paired with the Xbox controller and boots directly to the Xbox app. The app is consistent with those on other Meta VR devices, supporting Xbox Cloud Gaming for streaming games. A three-month Game Pass Ultimate subscription code is included for both new and existing users.
During a week of testing, users can access games via a 26-foot virtual display or use passthrough augmented reality mode to project games into their physical environment. The virtual display can be curved or flattened. While streaming quality shows some limitations in resolution and bitrate—seen in titles like Forza Horizon 5—lag was minimal.
The headset’s design is primarily a black model accented with green bands and Xbox logos, complemented by similarly styled controllers. Microsoft markets this device as an Xbox product based on its ability to stream Xbox Cloud Gaming, marking its first collaboration on an Xbox-branded VR headset.
This VR headset suits users seeking a portable Xbox gaming experience without needing a console or external screen. However, it requires an active $19.99/month Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Its appeal could grow if Microsoft introduces a dedicated cloud gaming plan or a free ad-supported option in the future.
The Quest 3S Xbox Edition is available starting today in the US and UK through Meta’s online store, Best Buy, Argos, and EE. Availability is limited, with Microsoft cautioning that supplies may quickly run out.
