Development of the cozy, Chibi-Robo-style adventure Misc. A Tiny Tale has been underway since 2021. The game launches on Nintendo Switch on July 22 and will naturally support Switch 2 via backwards compatibility, offering improved resolution, frame rates, and responsiveness.
These performance gains stem from a strategic decision by Tinyware Games, the developer, which anticipated the capabilities of the Switch 2 before its official reveal. Tinyware founder and lead developer Michael Pearce explained that the team predicted the new console would run backward compatible Switch titles with better and more stable resolution and frame rates, especially if the original game didn’t restrict rendering.
To leverage this, they designed the Switch version’s resolution to be dynamic, allowing it to scale up on more powerful hardware. They also removed frame rate caps, enabling the game to reach up to 60 FPS—beyond what the original Switch could handle.
Without early access to a Switch 2 dev kit, the team waited until they could test on actual hardware. The results were substantial: handheld mode performance improved from around 480p at 30 FPS on the original Switch to 1080p at 60 FPS on the Switch 2. Additional enhancements included faster load times, nearly eliminated texture pop-in, more responsive controls, and an overall smoother gameplay experience.
Pearce praised the Switch 2’s handling of the game, stating it “runs the game like a dream.” He also emphasized pride in the game’s solid performance on the original Switch, while acknowledging the “really special” improvements on the newer console.
