NetEase Games and developer 24 Entertainment Lin’an, a subsidiary of Thunder Fire Studio, have announced Blood Message, a cinematic, single-player action-adventure game currently in development for PC and consoles. No release date has been revealed.
Lead producer and executive vice president Zhipeng Hu described Blood Message as NetEase Games’ first fully single-player experience, promising an epic and cinematic journey after two decades in the gaming industry.
Blood Message is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and combines intense survival combat with rich Eastern storytelling. Players assume the role of a nameless messenger and his young son during the final years of the Tang Dynasty, joining an uprising in Dunhuang. The game features a third-person perspective on a 1,000-mile journey through harsh deserts and vast wilderness toward Chang’an, the Tang Empire’s capital.
The narrative explores themes of loyalty, family, honor, and sacrifice, focusing on ordinary heroes rather than historical figures like emperors or generals. The setting highlights the customs and history of late Tang Dynasty China.
