Nintendo has acknowledged reports of inaccurate battery life readings on the Switch 2 and provided a support guide for users experiencing the issue.
The company notes that some users may see discrepancies between the battery indicator and actual usage time. For example, the console might continue operating for hours after the battery appears nearly depleted.
Nintendo recommends several troubleshooting steps: using an adequately powerful AC adapter, ensuring the system is updated to the latest firmware, and booting into recovery mode to reset the battery meter. If these fixes fail, the company advises sending the device in for repair.
Since the Switch 2’s launch last week, some players have expressed concerns about battery life. Official specifications list the battery duration as approximately 2 to 6.5 hours, varying by game. This is notably shorter than the original Switch and Switch OLED, which Nintendo rates between 4.5 to 9 hours.
A recent YouTube battery test comparing the Switch 2, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite found the Switch 2 lasting 2 hours and 45 minutes playing Super Mario Odyssey under similar conditions. The Switch Lite lasted about 30 minutes longer, while the Switch OLED ran for nearly five and a half hours—almost double the Switch 2’s battery life.
