Accessory makers report that the Nintendo Switch 2 employs a new encryption system and dedicated encryption chip that disrupts the use of third-party docks.
According to a report by The Verge, while the Switch 2 includes its own dock, it is incompatible with external portable docks and video glasses like the Xreal One. USB-C Power Delivery tests show the console does not follow standard protocols, refusing to negotiate power or function properly with unauthorized docks.
This encrypted communication appears exclusive to Nintendo’s hardware, limiting support for third-party accessories. For example, Jsaux, a company planning a dock for the Switch 2, has paused development. Meanwhile, the Antank S3 Max dock remains functional as it appears compatible with Nintendo’s system.
Xreal plans to release a new docking device later this year. Manufacturers warn firmware updates from Nintendo could further affect accessory support, though some docks may receive their own updates.
