Nintendo has implemented a strict policy blocking Switch 2 consoles from accessing online services if they detect the use of MiG carts, effectively rendering affected devices incapable of online connectivity.
This crackdown has resulted in many users encountering the error code “2124-4508,” which signals the console has been restricted. The policy aims to combat piracy, as MiG carts enable playing copied or pirated games.
However, this approach is causing complications for the secondhand market. Reports have surfaced of buyers purchasing discounted Switch 2 consoles, only to discover they are already blocked by Nintendo. In one case, a buyer returned a bricked console bought from a retailer without issue, but purchases from marketplaces like eBay or Gumtree present higher risks.
The policy raises questions about how private sellers and stores can verify the status of devices before resale or return. As Nintendo continues banning affected consoles, more users may face problems with used hardware purchases.
