Pixel 10 Series Expected to Feature Brighter Displays and Improved PWM Rate

Google is reportedly enhancing the Pixel 10 series with brighter screens and a higher PWM refresh rate on its Pro models. This adjustment aims to address previous concerns about Pixel displays, particularly their relatively low PWM rates compared to competitors.

Pixel displays have improved over the years, but the low PWM refresh rate has remained a drawback, potentially causing eye strain for sensitive users. While some users have modded Pixel devices to improve this, Google has been reluctant to implement the change officially—until now.

According to Android Authority, the Pixel 10 Pro will increase its PWM refresh rate from 240Hz on the Pixel 9 Pro to 480Hz, aligning with rates seen on Apple and Samsung devices. However, the standard Pixel 10 and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will reportedly retain the 240Hz rate.

In addition to refresh rate upgrades, all Pixel 10 models are expected to feature increased brightness. The base Pixel 10 is set to reach a declared HDR brightness of 2,000 nits, up from 1,800 nits on the Pixel 9. The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL are expected to reach 2,250 nits, rising from 2,050 nits. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s inner display may hit 1,850 nits, while the external display could reach 2,050 nits—both roughly 10% brighter than the previous generation.

These figures represent software-declared brightness levels and may differ from real-world performance. Last year, the Pixel 9 Pro advertised peak brightness levels as high as 3,000 nits. Overall, the updates suggest Google’s focus on enhancing visual quality across the Pixel 10 lineup.

As these details stem from early reports with limited sourcing, they should be considered tentative until officially confirmed.
