Razer has introduced the Kishi V3 Pro XL, a mobile gaming controller designed to accommodate large tablets up to 13 inches, including the iPad Pro and Android tablets with USB-C connectors. Priced at $199.99, it expands on Razer’s previous Kishi line with a wider form factor inspired by the 2013 Edge.
The controller easily fits a 10.9-inch iPad Air, offering an enhanced gaming experience with good sound quality from the tablet’s speakers. Beyond size, the V3 Pro XL shares several upgrades with the smaller Kishi V3 models, including full-size TMR magnetic joysticks that prevent stick drift, textured ergonomic grips, and configurable macro buttons placed near the triggers and on the rear grips. Haptic feedback is available on Android devices and PCs via USB-C connection, though the cable is sold separately.
During testing, the Kishi V3 Pro XL performed well with cloud gaming services like NVIDIA GeForce Now and Razer’s PC Remote Play. GeForce Now on iPad requires use via browser due to Apple App Store restrictions, and while the streaming quality on the iPad Air showed some visual artifacts compared to the Steam Deck OLED, latency remained low enough for responsive gameplay. Razer’s PC Remote Play, using Razer Cortex on PC, delivered high-quality streaming that matched the iPad screen’s resolution and aspect ratio. Steam Link also serves as a viable alternative for PC game streaming.
When combined with a 10.9-inch iPad Air, the controller setup weighs approximately 1.7 pounds, making it heavier than devices like the Steam Deck OLED or Xbox ROG Ally. Although somewhat bulky for one-handed use, it provides a comfortable two-handed gaming experience.
The Kishi V3 Pro XL stands out in the market due to its ability to accommodate large tablets, a feature that competitors like Backbone’s $169.99 Pro controller or the $79.99 GameSir G8 Plus, which fits smaller devices, do not offer. While its $199.99 price point may seem high, it meets a demand for turning large tablets into console-style gaming setups by leveraging their screens and speakers.
Overall, the Kishi V3 Pro XL offers tablet owners a robust option to enhance mobile gaming, delivering solid build quality, expanded compatibility, and improved controls.
