Capcom has released an eight-minute “Creators’ Message” developer diary for Resident Evil Requiem, featuring key members of the development team including director Koshi Nakanishi, art director Tomonori Takano, and producers Masachika Kawata and Masato Kumazawa.
The upcoming game, the ninth mainline entry in the Resident Evil survival horror series, promises an immersive experience centered on “addictive fear”. The developers emphasized that horror remains the core element of the gameplay.
A new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, is introduced as an FBI intelligence analyst who is reserved and easily frightened. Unlike previous characters, Grace experiences the horror as players do, learning to confront her fears throughout the story. Despite her timid nature, she is trained in firearms and uses deductive reasoning to remain composed under pressure.
The team focused on high realism, including subtle character details such as facial redness when Grace is inverted and lifelike hair movement modeled with a custom wig.
Players will be able to switch seamlessly between first-person and third-person perspectives. First-person mode offers intense, close-up horror, while third-person allows for a more action-oriented experience.
Set 30 years after the US government’s Sterilization Missile destroyed Raccoon City to contain the T-virus outbreak, the game serves as a tribute to characters impacted by the original incident. The release also coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil series in March 2026.
Resident Evil Requiem will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC via Steam on February 27, 2026.
