Satechi has introduced a new aluminum SSD enclosure that complements the black and silver finish of Apple’s Mac Mini M4. Thinner than the Mac Mini, the enclosure can sit atop the device or serve as a matching stand. It connects via a braided USB-C cable, making it compatible with any device supporting external storage.

The USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure resembles Satechi’s earlier Mac Mini M4 Stand & Hub, released in January for $99.99. The new enclosure is priced at $119.99 and offers faster transfer speeds but lacks the additional USB ports and SD card reader found in the Stand & Hub.

It supports most NVMe SSD sizes except the largest, including 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280, with capacities from 1TB to 8TB. While the Stand & Hub caps transfer speeds at 10Gbps, this new enclosure offers up to 40Gbps over USB4. It is backward compatible with slower speeds on non-USB4 devices.

The SSD can be installed by twisting off the enclosure’s bottom, which also reveals a storage area for the included short USB-C cable. The design features a thermal pad and cooling vents to prevent performance loss from overheating.
