Snapchat has introduced a new Lens called “Imagine Lens” that enables users to create and edit images using text-to-image AI generation. This feature is available exclusively to Snapchat+ Platinum and Lens+ subscribers.
Imagine Lens allows users to generate custom images by typing prompts such as “create an image of a grumpy cat” or “turn me into an alien.” The Lens also includes preset prompts like “Turn me into a four to five panel comic where something unexpected but heroic happens” and “Make me into a funny caricature.” Users can share their creations with friends, post them on their Story, or export them outside Snapchat.
This new Lens marks Snapchat’s first open-prompt image-generation tool, expanding its existing collection of generative AI Lenses. Users can easily modify prompts by tapping the caption bar.
Snapchat’s AI Lenses use a combination of proprietary and third-party AI models. While the company recently announced a mobile text-to-image research model, it has not confirmed if that model powers Imagine Lens.
Subscribers can access Imagine Lens at the front of the Lens Carousel or under the Exclusive category. Snapchat+ Platinum costs $15.99 per month, while Lens+ is priced at $8.99 per month.
Snapchat has been a leader in augmented reality and is increasingly integrating AI technologies. Earlier this year, it launched a Lens Studio iOS app and web tool for creating AR Lenses with AI. It also rolled out its first video generative AI Lenses in March.
