Sony Enables Cloud Gaming for All PlayStation Portal Users

Sony has expanded cloud gaming support for its PlayStation Portal handheld device, allowing all users to access select PS5 games without needing to connect to a PlayStation 5 console.

The PlayStation Portal functions primarily as a streaming device for the PS5, unlike standalone handhelds such as the Steam Deck. Until now, it streamed games via Remote Play from the user’s console. With this update, users can stream from a cloud library, tapping into a catalog of PlayStation games available through PlayStation Plus.

The new features come with an update introducing a “Cloud Streaming home screen” and a search function to find games owned or accessible through PlayStation Plus. Additional enhancements include 3D Audio support, a passcode lock, and a network status page.

Access to cloud gaming on the PlayStation Portal requires a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, Sony’s highest tier, priced at $17.99 per month or available in discounted 3-month and 12-month plans.
