Spotify has launched an updated version of its Android Auto app featuring a redesigned interface and new functionality, including support for the collaborative “Jam” feature.
First announced at Google I/O 2025, the update enhances Spotify’s use of Android Auto’s improved media app flexibility. Users will now find a more prominent Downloaded section in their Library, allowing easy access to offline music—a useful option for areas with poor network coverage. Downloaded tracks are also marked with an indicator while browsing albums or playlists.
The update includes subtle UI improvements and introduces a floating Search shortcut that opens a dedicated search page. Previously, search relied solely on Google Assistant, which would immediately play results. The new search allows users to view albums and tracks within the app before playing.
A key addition is Spotify Jam, accessible from the “Now Playing” screen. It generates a QR code that passengers can scan to join and collaboratively add songs to the current queue. The driver controls the session and can remove participants as needed, making it a practical feature for group road trips.
This update corresponds to Spotify version 9.0.58.596 and is currently rolling out via the Google Play Store.
Google has indicated that other media apps like Amazon Music and YouTube Music will receive similar updates to take advantage of Android Auto’s expanded capabilities in the near future.
