Spotify is preparing to introduce its long-anticipated lossless audio tier, with new references appearing in the code of its desktop app, web player, and iPhone beta app.

Confirmed by MacRumors with help from developer Aaron Perris, the upcoming lossless tier will support 24-bit audio at 44.1 kHz. Users will be able to stream or download lossless tracks via the Spotify iPhone app.

Bloomberg previously reported that Spotify plans to launch a “Music Pro” subscription tier later this year. This higher-priced option, possibly costing an additional $5.99 monthly on top of Spotify Premium, may include lossless audio, remixing tools, and concert ticket access.

Spotify first announced plans for a “Hi-Fi” lossless tier in 2021. However, Apple Music has offered lossless streaming up to 24-bit/192 kHz since that year at no extra charge, making Spotify’s rollout later and potentially more expensive.
