Spotify has released an updated version of its Android Auto app featuring a redesigned interface and new functionalities, including support for the collaborative “Jam” feature.
Announced earlier this year at Google I/O 2025, the update leverages Android Auto’s enhanced flexibility for media apps. The latest version, Spotify 9.0.58.596, is now available through the Play Store.
Key improvements include a more prominent “Downloaded” section in the Library to easily access offline music, which is useful when driving in areas with weak signals. Downloaded tracks also display an indicator within albums and playlists.
The app introduces a floating Search shortcut that opens a dedicated search page, replacing the previous reliance on Google Assistant voice commands. Users can now browse search results for albums and tracks directly within the app.
The standout addition is Spotify Jam, accessible from the “Now Playing” screen. This feature generates a QR code that passengers can scan to join and collaboratively add songs to the car’s music queue. The driver controls the session and can remove participants if needed, making it a practical tool for shared listening on road trips.
Google has indicated that other media apps, including Amazon Music and YouTube Music, will also adopt similar enhancements soon.
