After more than four years of anticipation, Spotify’s lossless streaming feature could be arriving soon, based on recent signs in the app’s code.
The Spicetify Twitter account, known for customizing the Spotify client, shared screenshots revealing hidden references to lossless streaming. These include a lossless option in the device connection sidebar and streaming quality settings. The account also noted that lossless support appears to be coded for Spotify Connect and the web player.
Although lossless streaming is not yet available to users, these hints suggest Spotify may be close to launching the feature.
Spotify first announced a “Spotify HiFi” tier in 2021, promising lossless streaming, but it never launched. Earlier in 2024, CEO Daniel Ek mentioned the company was working on a “deluxe” Spotify version. Bloomberg recently reported that Spotify plans to introduce a “Music Pro” tier offering higher-quality streaming, potentially by year-end, at an extra cost of up to $5.99 per month.
Meanwhile, competitors like Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Tidal already provide lossless streaming options.
