Nintendo released a system update for the Switch 2 that addresses backward compatibility issues affecting several Switch games.
Notably, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate received fixes for Mii Fighter-related problems. Previously, online matches could end prematurely if a Mii Fighter was used with players on different Switch models. The latest update resolves this issue. Additionally, the thumbnail image for created or edited Mii Fighters may still not display correctly but is expected to be fixed soon.
According to Nintendo’s eShop page, the update notes for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate read:
- Online matches involving Nintendo Switch 2 and original Switch users with Mii Fighters no longer end immediately.
- Thumbnail display issues for Mii Fighters may improve when saving again, with a full fix planned.
Nintendo Switch Sports also saw improvements. A prior issue that capped the frame rate at 30 fps during football matches in Play Globally mode has been resolved. The game now performs consistently with the original Switch.
Besides these first-party titles, the update fixes backward compatibility problems in third-party games such as Capcom Fighting Collection 2, Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Online play functionality was confirmed working smoothly on the updated firmware.
This is part of Nintendo’s ongoing efforts to improve the Switch 2’s compatibility with existing Switch software, enhancing gameplay experiences across both first- and third-party catalogs.
