T-Mobile, one of the largest wireless carriers in the US, is expanding its satellite connectivity feature by allowing users to text 911 via satellite at no cost, even if they are not T-Mobile subscribers.
Satellite communication has evolved from basic messaging to supporting SMS, MMS, and popular apps, enabling users to stay connected in remote areas without cellular coverage. The new Text-to-911 service enhances emergency communication by allowing users to reach 911 call centers via satellite when voice calls are unavailable.
This service is available to anyone with a compatible phone who registers for it, regardless of their wireless provider. T-Mobile customers on the Go5G Next and Experience Beyond plans have automatic access, while others can activate it for free through the T-Mobile website or T-Life app.
For users without a compatible plan or those on other carriers, satellite connectivity can also be added for $10 per month. However, the Text-to-911 feature itself remains free for all registered users. To enable the service, non-T-Mobile customers can visit the T-Mobile website or contact the carrier directly.
With satellite coverage improving emergency communication options, T-Mobile’s open approach aims to enhance safety and connectivity nationwide.
