Nintendo’s Switch 2 Pro Controller offers noticeable improvements, especially in its analog sticks. Although the earlier model was well-regarded, the new controller represents a premium upgrade for those seeking enhanced performance.
GameTraderZero has disassembled the controller, uncovering that Nintendo sourced the analog sticks from Alps Alpine, a Japanese company known for automotive and consumer electronics components. The sticks appear to be a custom design tailored specifically for the Switch 2 Pro Controller.
According to Nintendo Patents Watch, the stick modules prominently display the Alps Alpine branding, confirming their involvement in the new controller’s design.
For enthusiasts interested in repairs or modifications, the teardown reveals that the analog sticks can be replaced without soldering, a welcome feature. However, the controller’s internal design is more complex than the previous model, making overall disassembly more challenging.
This redesign aims to avoid surfaces where dirt and grime could collect, enhancing comfort and durability during use.
The focus on the analog sticks arises from issues like the notorious ‘Joy-Con drift’ in the original Switch controllers. While the new Joy-Con sticks resemble earlier versions, Nintendo claims they are fully redesigned. The Pro Controller did not experience the same drift problems, but the new sticks provide a smoother feel and potentially longer lifespan.
