Windows 11 Introduces Customizable Position for Volume and Brightness Indicators

Microsoft is testing a new feature in Windows 11 that allows users to reposition hardware indicator pop-ups, such as volume and screen brightness, to the top-left or top-center of the display. This update is part of a recent Windows 11 Dev Channel build which also introduces a new “Recall” homepage highlighting the top three apps and websites used within the last 24 hours.

Currently, these indicators appear in the bottom center of the screen. The new setting lets users move them to less obtrusive locations to avoid interference with active applications. However, the top-right position is not available, likely to prevent overlap with window control buttons.

In addition to the indicator repositioning, the new Recall homepage surfaces recent activity and frequently used content to help users quickly resume tasks. It displays recent snapshots and top apps or websites from the past day.

Recall also features a new left-side navigation bar that enables users to switch between the Recall interface and the Timeline view for browsing snapshots. These features are currently under testing with Windows Insiders and are expected to become widely available in the coming months.
