Xbox 360 Dashboard Updated to Promote Xbox Series X|S Consoles

Microsoft recently updated the Xbox 360 dashboard to fix a longstanding issue with distorted box art thumbnails. Alongside this fix, the update introduces prominent advertisements for the newer Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.

Users on Reddit and Kotaku have reported the addition of two ads on the Xbox 360 home screen. One displays images of the Xbox Series X and S without text, while the other shows a QR code linking to the Xbox website with the message “Experience next gen performance.” Clicking these ads on the console does nothing; users must scan the QR code with a smartphone or tablet to learn more.

The last major Xbox 360 dashboard update came after Microsoft shut down the console’s online store in July 2024. That update removed obsolete menus but introduced the box art distortion bug, which has now been resolved.

The Xbox 360 remains Microsoft’s best-selling console, with approximately 84 million units sold since its 2005 launch. It maintained popularity well after the Xbox One’s release and still holds a notable market presence in regions like Mexico following the arrival of the Xbox Series X/S. Microsoft supported the console’s online store for 19 years, underscoring its enduring user base.
