Ahead of the Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025, several Xbox titles have begun appearing on Microsoft’s Xbox app for PC. Although these games are not currently playable through the app, their presence may signal Microsoft’s effort to unify Xbox and PC gaming libraries under a single platform.
This aligns with recent marketing hints, such as the reference to “Xbox PC” in announcements for Gears of War: Reloaded and the trailer for MIO: Memories in Orbit. Both featured “Xbox PC” as a platform designation, marking a new branding approach for Microsoft’s PC offerings.
The Xbox app on PC now lists a varied selection of games, including Xbox Series X|S titles and Xbox 360-era games. However, only those already released on both platforms are currently playable. It remains unclear if Microsoft plans to expand streaming or emulation options, or simply aims to consolidate users’ Xbox libraries across devices.
Microsoft is enhancing its PC app experience amid growing competition from Valve’s SteamOS, especially as hardware makers like Lenovo release devices running SteamOS instead of Windows. These improvements are aligned with Microsoft’s broader strategy to streamline gaming on Windows, including collaborations like the upcoming Xbox-branded handheld with Asus. Integration with other stores such as Steam and the Epic Games Store is also a potential goal, to centralize PC gaming libraries.
The Xbox Games Showcase promises reveals for several anticipated titles, including State of Decay 3, Perfect Dark, Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, Everwild, and Hollow Knight Silksong. The event will stream on Sunday, June 8, starting at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET, followed by a post-show focused on The Outer Worlds 2.
