The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 featured a wide range of announcements, from new hardware to game reveals and expansions.
Outer Worlds 2 took center stage with creative director Leonard Boyarsky detailing how the sequel will expand on the original’s themes of corporate dystopia. With increased resources, Obsidian aims for deeper storylines, lore, and reactive RPG elements. Notably, this marks Boyarsky’s first opportunity in over 25 years to fully develop a sequel in a world he co-created. The release date is set for October 29.
Obsidian also introduced a revamped skill system reminiscent of Fallout New Vegas perks, including traits like a “Serial Killer” perk that grants permanent health bonuses from defeated enemies.
Xbox Ally Handheld was officially unveiled as a collaboration between Xbox and Asus. This portable device, a modified version of the Asus ROG Ally, integrates an Xbox button and brings Xbox games to a handheld form factor. Xbox president Sarah Bond described it as “an Xbox you can hold in your hands,” and confirmed all showcased games will be playable on the device. The Xbox Ally is scheduled for release later this year.
