Fairphone has unveiled its latest smartphone, the Fairphone 6, nearly two years after its previous model. The new device is smaller and 9% lighter than its predecessor but includes a larger 4,415mAh battery, which is easily replaceable by removing just seven screws. This battery can deliver up to 53 hours of usage on a full charge.
The Fairphone 6 introduces modular add-ons such as a card holder and finger loop that attach to the back panel, which itself can be partially removed using two screws to swap these accessories. This modular approach enhances customization and aligns with Fairphone’s ongoing focus on repairability.
Powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, the phone includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, expandable up to 2TB via an SDXC card. It features a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, slightly smaller than the Fairphone 5’s 6.46-inch screen but with improved smoothness.
Camera setup comprises a 50MP main sensor and a 13MP ultrawide lens at the rear, with a 32MP front-facing camera. This marks a downgrade in front and ultrawide cameras compared to the Fairphone 5.
The phone’s design omits the previous camera bump, placing lenses flush with the back panel. It retains a modular structure, allowing users to access and replace 12 components—including the screen, battery, and USB port—using a standard screwdriver.
Fairphone offers a five-year warranty and promises eight years of software updates through 2033. However, the device has an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance, meaning it can withstand splashes and jets of water but is not protected against submersion.
On the software front, Fairphone introduces “Fairphone Moments,” a feature activated by a physical switch that toggles between a full smartphone experience and a minimalist mode designed to limit distractions and enhance focus.
The Fairphone 6 is available now through Fairphone’s online store and European retailers for €599 (approximately $696). It comes in black, green, and white. In the U.S., it will be sold only through Murena with a privacy-focused, de-Googled version of Android called /e/OS, available for preorder at $899 with deliveries expected in August.
