Mario Kart 64 has been ported to PC by fans, offering enhanced features and modern graphics. The project, called SpaghettiKart, was developed by Harbour Masters, the same team behind PC ports of Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Star Fox 64.

SpaghettiKart supports ultrawide and 4K resolutions, high frame rates, antialiasing, and full level of detail (LOD). It also introduces a track editor, customizable camera controls, and more challenging CPU opponents.

The port results from months of reverse engineering by Harbour Masters and numerous contributors who rewrote the original Nintendo 64 game code into a playable PC format. The team uses no leaked or copyrighted assets, making the project legal as long as players supply their own legitimate ROMs.

Harbour Masters’ previous N64 ports have inspired mods featuring HD textures, ray tracing, and improved models. Meanwhile, the latest Mario Kart release, Mario Kart World, is available on Nintendo Switch 2.

VGC’s review of Mario Kart World noted: “Although its open world is wonderfully designed, Mario Kart World’s undercooked Free Roam mode means it’s not utilised to its fullest, turning what should have been an exciting new direction for the series into a disappointment. This is thankfully salvaged by the traditional Grand Prix, VS Race and Online modes, which are as brilliant as ever, and the exceptional new Knockout Tour battle royale, meaning the overall package is still well worth your time.”
