Nintendo’s Switch 2 offers improved speed, power, and features over the original Switch, but it is also physically larger. The new model measures half an inch (12.7mm) taller, 1.2 inches (30.48mm) wider, and weighs 0.22 pounds (99.79 grams) more than its predecessor.
The design shift brings a less colorful look and has not improved handheld comfort. Compared to the original Switch and the OLED edition, the Switch 2 is noticeably bigger, with the OLED model having already introduced a larger screen over the original.
While not as portable as some newer PC handhelds, like the upcoming surfboard-style device, the Switch 2 still balances size and usability better than smaller models from other manufacturers.
In comparison with Valve’s Steam Deck, the Switch 2 is smaller and less comfortable, but offers greater portability than devices such as the Analogue Pocket and Anbernic handhelds.
The Switch 2 was also measured against full-size consoles like the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo’s GameCube. The comparisons highlight Nintendo’s continued focus on compact yet capable hardware.
Finally, the Switch 2 was placed alongside various gaming-related items for scale, emphasizing its unique size in the current gaming hardware landscape.
