Void Interactive has confirmed that its tactical shooter Ready or Not has undergone content adjustments to meet certification requirements for its upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S release. Changes include reductions in dismemberment and gore, nudity, depiction of child mistreatment, and explicit violence.
An update on Steam detailed that these modifications were essential to secure PEGI 18, USK 18, and ESRB M ratings, allowing the game to pass certification on the first submission. Void Interactive described the changes as preserving the game’s original tone.
The studio explained that maintaining different versions of the game for PC and consoles creates a high risk of bugs and synchronization issues, particularly affecting multiplayer crossplay. To avoid these problems, some content adjustments were applied to the PC version as well, ensuring asset parity across platforms.
Player-triggered dismemberment remains prominent but is now more limited, such as disabling additional dismemberment once an enemy is dead. Character art depicting torture has been toned down, and some characters have received additional clothing coverage.
Regarding violence involving children, Void Interactive expanded on its existing approach to present such themes responsibly to meet certification standards. For example, an animation of a child previously showing convulsive movements was changed to depict the child as unconscious or sleeping. Evidence related to illicit child content has been censored on consoles but remains unchanged on PC.
The developers emphasized that most changes are subtle, mainly affecting evidence items and nudity, and that PC players might not notice differences. However, some fans have responded negatively, accusing the studio of censorship and review-bombing the game on Steam.
Ready or Not is scheduled for console release on July 15, 2025.
Separately, Void Interactive parted ways with its publisher Team17 shortly after announcing a controversial school shooting mission within the game. Although no official reason was given, controversy arose following a developer’s confirmation of the mission via Reddit. The game was also briefly removed from sale in 2022 due to a trademark dispute.
