Ripple has locked 400 million XRP tokens, valued at approximately $869 million, into escrow, according to data from Whale Alert.
Earlier, the company unlocked 500 million XRP, worth about $1.088 billion, as part of its regular monthly schedule. These tokens were transferred to Ripple in two transactions: 300 million XRP and 200 million XRP.
The 300 million XRP transfer is believed to support on-demand liquidity operations (ODL), exchange-traded products (ETPs), and strategic partnerships.
A separate attempt to unlock 300 million XRP today appeared to fail, suggesting that the escrow process remains incomplete and further updates are expected.
Since late 2017, Ripple has typically released one billion XRP tokens from escrow monthly. However, earlier this year, the company shifted its pattern by relocating tokens internally before unlocking them. In March, Ripple created new escrows using its own XRP holdings instead of unlocked tokens—a notably unusual move that continued in subsequent months.
It was previously reported that Ripple released tokens on June 4. The company clarified recently that it does not technically hold 38 billion XRP in escrow, as these assets are managed through smart contracts. The latest market report indicates Ripple holds up to five billion XRP tokens directly.
